It’s a wrap! But far from over…
Thank you to those who joined us during women’s month – August 2020
During the month of August, SIOPSA celebrated women through the lens of work psychology. We are extremely proud of all the SIOPSA members who stood up and supported the various initiatives to campaign for greater equality and empowerment of women. We also celebrate and are grateful to our partners coming on this journey with us.
The campaign kicked off with the mentorship programme in which 45 female professionals volunteered their personal time to mentor 135 students, interns and young professionals. The post-event feedback from the mentees indicated that this was an immensely valuable learning experience and a number of our participants are continuing on this mentoring journey. Thank you to our member, Zaheera Laher, for coordinating this process and also to our partners, JvR Academy and Knowledge Resources for your sponsorship.
A SIOPSA women’s month gallery was set up with 10 ladies in various sectors that was nominated by their peers in recognition for the impact they made on their careers. You are welcome to view the gallery of phenomenal women by visiting our Women’s Month page at https://siopsa.developmentserver.co.za/iopgallery/. Our members, Marina Pretorius, Kirstie Meehan, Somona Kabembe and Amalia Magnin coordinated and executed this.
The importance of the needs and challenges of our youth was also brought to light through the wonderful initiative – The MINA CUP Foundation. Contributions made to this cause during August led to us being able to provide ten ladies with a Mina Cup. SIOPSA hosted two webinars dedicated to Women’s Month. We were truly inspired by our panel of experts across gender, generation and profession who passionately and candidly spoke about how we are tackling the advancement of women in society, in organisational leadership and achieving gender equality. The takeout is that gender equality and diversity cannot be tackled in a vacuum – to make real change happen. Thank you to Dr Natasha Winkler-Titus and Ingra Du Buisson Narsai for leading this event.
And last but not the least, the I-SO-Lead Student Webinar presented a wealth of knowledge to upcoming IOP students on how to take the lead in their careers. Our three panel members have inspired the students with their career journeys and have provided rich insight on how to approach the working environment and to take the lead in making dreams a reality. Thank you Dr Marissa Brouwers for leading the student webinar.
Congratulations to our winners!
